Floridian Rhapsody

November 29, 2000

One more for the evening. For all those who have an equally fervent love of electoral politics and Queen, I present Floridian Rhapsody. It really helps if you sing it. [via Lake Effect]

PowerPuff Jet

Too cool! Delta Airlines now has a Powerpuff Girls Jet! Note to self: find sudden business need on the East Coast. [via GirlHacker]

All About Lileks

November 28, 2000

A little link for today: The Gallery of Regrettable Food. I first saw this site several months ago but was reminded of it today while surfing one of my usual haunts. I don’t know that there are really words to describe it, but if you’ve ever looked at your mom’s old cookbooks and said, “How could they eat that?” then you’ll probably enjoy it immensely for camp value, if nothing else. To start you off on this culinary journey, I heartily recommend that favorite potboiler (pardon the pun) Meat & Romance.

And if you have time, check out the main site too. James Lileks is a wonderful writer with a lot of good stories to tell, and you can see what Jasper Dog is up to.

There. I think that breaks my all-time record for most links in a single post.

Tech Support

November 28, 2000

Good thing I didn’t hold my breath—it was out all day yesterday. But I called AT&T this morning and after the usual voice mail runaround, got a live person who identified my problem and put it in their system to get fixed. Two hours or so later, it was, and I’ve been a happy little web geek all day today. Also got a great deal on a Powerbook through a gal on DigitalEves, so I will be all ready to travel in January, which I expect will be the first time I go back for work. I’ll be in S.J. the middle of next month, but that’s a personal trip for a certain someone’s birthday and won’t require any computing power.

Unpacking

November 26, 2000

Well, it seems to be working today. I’m still holding my breath, but I’ve been talking nice to it and that seems to work. Never underestimate the value of a little kindness. Back to work tomorrow, for my first full week after the move—should be interesting, but I feel well rested and ready to go, [...]

Computer Hell

November 25, 2000

Another day of total computer hell. It’s been acting up rather severely since the beginning of the week, and I’ve spent at least two hours every day since then trying to figure out what’s wrong and trying out various solutions, including the dreaded “to hell with it, let’s reformat the hard drive” manuever. It’s working [...]

Blessings

November 24, 2000

I know it’s officially a day late, but I really was too full to even think last night. So without further ado, what I’m thankful for this year: My wonderful family, and all the new members it has since September Friends near and far, who bring so much joy, silliness, and depth to my life [...]

So Full

November 23, 2000

I am so full. I never meant to have seconds, but of course I did, and to my dismay found there was no room for pie. But it was a wonderful feast—good friends and family and lots of stuffing always make for a good Thanksgiving in my book. Oh, and gravy…mustn’t forget the gravy. Mmmmm.

Futzing

November 21, 2000

Good news. After a couple hours of futzing, I’ve reprogrammed the Email Me! link at left so that anyone can use it, not just those folks who have email clients set up. So drop me a line from anywhere—there’s no excuse not to say hi. I wish I knew more about CGI scripting though; I [...]

Lego Master

November 21, 2000

Unbelievable. Lego Master Eric Harshbarger has done it again. And if you thought the desk was a feat of engineering, wait until you see his latest creation—San from Princess Mononoke. It’s a beautiful piece of work, and I shudder to think how much it must have cost for all of those rare brick colors.
