Weekend Warrior
A quick update—it's been a busy weekend, and I hope to put up all of the details later, but here's the summary:
Friday: Went to the final day of WEB2000, again lots of great seminars, and the tastiest lunch of the 3 days. The entire area around Moscone Center was taken over in the afternoon for a gigantic Democratic rally with Bill Clinton. Lots of Secret Service guys and bomb-sniffing dogs walking around in the morning, and streets full of sign-waving folks in the afternoon.
Saturday: The first of the furniture goes off to my friend Erica's house—bye-bye desk! Mom arrives, we grab lots of boxes out of the dumpster at Kinko's, and jet off to the Spiral Dance. Very intense for me this year, but ultimately very good. It was a nice change to be there and actually know more than a handful of people—it really makes a difference.
Sunday: Woke up way earlier than I would have preferred, worked a little, then went and toured some old haunts and my old schools. Brought back lots of memories, pleasant and unpleasant, that I hope to record later. Went to dinner at IHOP and had pancakes for dinner, a marvelously silly gesture, then back home for more work and packing. The Deb arrived later that evening, and we said goodbye to the old car, which will be picked up by the wreckers sometime later this week.
And now, I'm back in the thick of it at work, trying to make up for the time missed last week while I was out learnin' stuff. I have already heard from Mom that I should expect a radically different home when I get back tonight, so I'm trying to brace myself. I always find it really hard to see my life boxed up.
