WanderingMind: The Banner

High lonesome movie

OK, one thing I really miss about the Bay Area (aside from my friends, of course)—theaters that show independent movies. There are two movie theaters near where I live, but they both concentrate on the latest Hollywood big movies (saw the Grinch, there, for instance). I miss the Towne and Camera 3 especially. So it was with great delight that I got to see O Brother, Where Art Thou? the other night. An odd film to be sure, but the Coens did a remarkable adaptation of The Odyssey into Depression-era Mississippi, without making it look forced. And the soundtrack was a pure delight, if you're fond of blues, bluegrass, gospel, and the ways they can all come together. I've been walking around for 2 days now singing "Man of Constant Sorrow" to myself in a Southern accent.
