Another Day, Another Month
And the calendar page turns over againā¦things are picking up around Casa WanderingMind—some freelance work here and there, enough to live on in the short term, and enough to maybe build a real business on over the long term. It's strange, after so many years of being a company gal, to think of myself as an entrepreneur. In the go-go venture capital sense, I doubt I'd ever qualify, but in the start-your-own-small-business sense, I seem to be doing all right. It's certainly got me thinking about the future in a different way—pondering ways to create business for myself while at the same time continuing to look for full-time work is a bit disjointed at times, especially since I'm also working in two geographical areas to a certain degree. It'll all work out somehow, I'm sure; in the meantime, as I mentioned before, I'm happy just to be working. While I've mellowed some in my unemployment, what I do is still a large part of my identity, and likely to remain so. What has happened is a kind of refocusing—after two years of web work, I find myself drawn to print again. Something about having tangible results of my labors, no doubt— there's something comforting to the soul about being able to hold up an object and say, "I made this."
In other news, my limited space and hopefully impending move have resulted in the creation of WanderingMind Recycled Mercantile, where you have the chance to buy my lovingly enjoyed books and CDs at very reasonable prices through Amazon. Click the link to see what's available—new items added daily, at least for a while.
