Still Recovering

So, it's been a week, and W. is still my president. I guess there's something to be said for not having a drawn-out legal brouhaha this time, but it doesn't leave me any less depressed or less scared.

There are now 11 states who have decided, in their infinite wisdom, that my civil rights are a threat to their way of life. So, in alphabetical order, here are 10 states I'm not likely to be spending a lot of time in:

  • Arkansas
  • Georgia
  • Kentucky
  • Michigan
  • Mississippi
  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • Oklahoma
  • Ohio
  • Utah

I'm giving Oregon a dispensation due to my friends in Portland (Hi Whit!), and my desire to spend a day locked inside Powell's Books with an unlimited Visa card. In the event that should ever occur, I don't want to have limited myself.

In the meantime, however, I'm feeding other dreams. I spent this weekend in LA, soaking up everything I could about being a screenwriter here. In addition to some great classes, lectures, and the grand finale of watching William Goldman and Aaron Sorkin interview each other, it was an outstanding road trip.

As a seasoned veteran of I-5 (Northwest Division), I believe that there are three ingredients crucial to a truly enjoyable road trip—good snacks, good music, and most of all good company. This trip had all three in spades (with the exception of a package of saladitos, or chile-salted plums, which my memory had apparently mistaken for a good flavor—sorry, Charissa). I have never sung louder, for longer, or had more fun on the road than on the way back—switching from Curtis Mayfield to the Dixie Chicks to Stevie Wonder to everything in between was one of the purest expressions of joy I've felt in a long time. Plus, I actually started writing. Just a snippet of a scene, a nugget that will hopefully turn into something good, but it marks the first time I've actually fired up Final Draft and used it to get my own words down. It felt good.

Funnily enough, those are states I have no desire to see. Ok, aside from Arkansas. Eureka Springs, AK is truly awesome, but that's the scenery.

Oh yeah, Ben is kicking "HI"

Ok Moped grrrl. No buying off your Amazon wish list BEFORE Christmas. Your Christmas items are not soley off your wishlist, but one item is. I did not buy it from Amazon. Therefore it will stay on your wishlist. Yeah.

I'm sure you can check the IP, so I'm not all that sneaky...
