Shopping bonanza this weekend—Cost Plus is my friend, and the feeling is mutual if judged by the rate of money exchange and delighted exclamation. Found lots of small bottles for alcoholic gifties (we’ve been busy brewing liqueurs all Fall, and have just gotten around to straining same for consumption). Also hit La Villa for crack ravs (thanks once again to Liz & Andrea for taking me there the first time). Just can’t get enough of those ravs—the addiction level is truly evil (but delicious). Finished wrapping the last of the presents, and there may be a movie in my future. All in all, not a bad way to roll into Xmas.
2005
…at my last entry (before last night), I see I had promised updates and photos from the great Scooter Rally. Sadly, these are not to be, due to events of that day. Briefly put, I had a great ride up the Peninsula to S.F., and then, about 45 minutes into the rally, popped an unfortunate and unintended wheelie on a hill and crashed. So rather than having a lovely, semi-drunken tour of the city on my beloved Rasgulla, I spent most of Saturday at St. Luke’s, took the train home, and didn’t manage to get my scooter back until a month later. The organizers were kind enough to take it back to the shop, and several wonderful people stopped their own rides temporarily to help me until the ambulance came. The upshot is that 4 months later, I’ve recovered from my torn ligaments (after wearing a brace for 2+ months) and am looking forward to more riding and a mild winter after I get my license.
And the lesson? No more hills, at least for now. Need to get some more serious skills before I try that again.
So it’s true…time keeps getting away from me here. I have grand plans for a redesign, additions, ambitions to write more, and somehow the energies get turned in other directions. In the interest of putting something up, however, I can at least link to where most of the action is these days:
Hopefully that’ll hold y’all until I find some way to focus. Until then, happy holidays (I don’t care what Bill O’Reilly says, it’s just better that way).
So, I haven’t written much about the scooter. That’s because up until fairly recently, it had been sitting in the driveway waiting for better weather. But it’s been summer for a few months now, my commute is short, and after some more practice, I’ve been feeling more confident in my riding ability. I also took the plunge and bought a proper jacket with some armor for added protection.
This weekend is the first real riding test. In an even deeper plunge, I’m riding up to S.F. for the San Francisco Classic scooter rally—2 days of touring, drinking, dancing, and dodgeball with hundreds of other scooter nuts. I’m a bit nervous about hills, but our little Bajaj posse is all going together at least on the first day, so that should help. In honor of the occasion, I developed a logo and screened some t-shirts. They came out a bit less solid than I’d hoped, but since they’re a perfect representation of that pesudo-seventies-faded-funny-decal-Urban-Outfitters look, I think we’ll probably skate. Plus, handmade, yo! Check the mad logo skills:

More updates and photos to come…
