So Full

I am so full. I never meant to have seconds, but of course I did, and to my dismay found there was no room for pie. But it was a wonderful feast—good friends and family and lots of stuffing always make for a good Thanksgiving in my book. Oh, and gravy…mustn't forget the gravy.

Mmmmm.

Soup!

I found just the site to tide me through a cold Seattle winter (which I've been told to expect). It's all about soup, and looks like it has many yummy recipes, as well as poems and reflections about the glories and significance of soup. Mmmm.

Food, Glorious Food

So the weekend didn't go exactly according to plan…but it turned out better, so who am I to complain? Our friends were nowhere to be found at the club, the Sutro Library was closed for Columbus Day, and we got up so late on Saturday that we didn't have enough time for the Magritte exhibit. However, it has been the greatest food weekend of all time. Some samples from our various menus in the last two days:

  • Braised endive with chevre and currants in a balsamic dressing
  • Artichoke and onion tart with fingerling potatoes, fresh green beans, and chioggia beets
  • Butternut squash soup with lots of fresh nutmeg (mmm…)
  • Berry sorbet and lemon verbena ice cream with strawberry jam-filled shortbreads

And that's not the half of it. Right now I feel like I won't need to eat until at least Wednesday (and I'm sure my stomach would be grateful if I didn't). So thanks to Greens restaurant and my friend Medusa, for two of the best meals I've ever eaten. I'm sure Lane Bryant thanks you too, since I will now need to buy bigger pants.

Since so much stuff fell off the schedule yesterday, Deb & I had plenty of time to wander around the city—we stopped by our friend Elizabeth's house to drop off a present, managed to make it to the Museum Store although not the exhibit, and wandered around the Castro a bit and did some shopping before heading off to dinner at Fort Mason. I guess that's one advantage of the impending move—I feel a need to fit as many of these quintessentially Bay Area experiences in as I can before I go. Of course I may discover, after I move, that they're not so quintessential after all, and that would be a good thing to know.
